2012-2017 STRATEGIC PLAN - COMMUNITY

By September 2017, all students will participate in and present the learning derived from curriculum-based, service-oriented community projects that instill confidence, responsibility, and produce measureable contributions to the community.


Year Four Goal:
By June 2016, the Strategic Planning Community Group will identify teachers who are currently conducting community based projects adn include them in an expanded group of teachers who will continue to pilot service learning projects using the Facing the Future toolkit.  Upon completion of the projects participants will reflect on the process, provide feedback and if necessary revise the toolkit.

Year Three Goal:
By June 2015, the Strategic Planning Community Group will continue to investigate existing Project Based Service Learning (PBSL) programs and their success.  From September through April a select group of teachers will pilot a service learning project using the Facing the Future toolkit.  Upon completion of the projects participants will reflect on the process, provide feedback and if necessary revise the toolkit.

Year Two Goal:
By June 2014, the Strategic Planning Community Group will complete a draft version of our Project Based Service Learning toolkit.  The group's service learning toolkit and recommendations will be presented to the Board of Education.

 

Year One Goal:
By June 2013, the Strategic Planning Community Group will review the components of Nutley's current instructional program that focus on curriculum-based service-oriented community projects, review existing models in other schools systems, and make recommendations for the development of a K-12 program that instills confidence and responsibility in our students and produces measurable contributions to our community. This work will culminate with a full report and a presentation to the Board of Education.

Update from Radcliffe School:

 

The third grade food drive this year was a great success! We helped

 

many people who were facing hunger.  First, we made posters to raise

 

awareness and hung them all around the school.  We also made

 

announcements in the afternoons to promote our food drive.  Then, we
reached out to our Nutley Shop Rite to borrow shopping carts for
students to fill with food for our drive.  Filling the carts motivated
our classmates to do their part in ending hunger.  As a school, we
were able to collect a lot of food to share with the local food
pantries so that they could prepare for the holiday season.  Radcliffe
School really pulled through for our cause and we hope to make our 3rd
Grade Food Drive an annual event!
